Comment on 'Better Modularization for Rails 2.0 (or What Rails Can Learn from Django)' by Dan Kubb

When I work on my rails app, I find I open each controller, its model (and associated models), the views for the controller, and the tests all at once. Its alot of scrolling sometimes; and it would be nicer to just highlight all the files and open them in one step.

The main difference I would have with your layout is I would want a separate directory for my views since it could get cluttered if you had a bunch of partials. I would also want my routing, migration and config files to be centralized as they are now.

However, I do think this will be an uphill battle to get integrated in time for Rails 2.0. Perhaps a better interim approach would be to refactor Rails so that the directories (and approaches for loading) views, models, controllers and tests are configurable. The defaults could match the current conventions, but it would provide a way to experiment with your layout. At the very least it might DRY up some of the core if this logic was centralized.
